Shaft material
- Steel, hardened or untempered, surface roughness ≤ Ra 0.8
Properties
- For high load capacity and oscillating movement, as well as for rough operation and temperature load. Long-run lubrication because of lubricant storage.
Range of application
- Track rollers, construction machines, crane construction, agricultural machines (impact loading)
Maintenance
- BIV-MET® is a low-maintenance bushing material. An initial greasing during installation is necessary, after that periodic greasing with oil or grease is mandatory.
Mounting advise
- Housing: Mounting bevel min. 1.5 mm x 15-45°
- Shaft: Mounting bevel 5 mm x 15°, edges rounded
- The application of an adequate force fitting mandrel is advisable. Grease lubrication of the outer surface may be necessary when mounting.
- Gluing: Adhesive should not contact the sliding surface!
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
- BIV-MET® is a wrapped bushing material consisting of a steel backing material and a bronze sliding layer. It was originally developed as a more economical solution towards the BRO-MET® material, which is a full bronze wrapped bushing.
Due to increasing copper prices and an increasing pressure to reduce production cost, BIV-MET® combines both advantages. The bronze sliding layer fulfils the demand on a wear resistant sliding material and the steel is a common backing material, catering to the need for lower production costs.
BIV-MET® is like all wrapped bushings, manufactured to DIN 1494 / ISO 3547 and the sizes are the same as for the BRO-MET® series.
The only difference is in the bronze alloy which the BRO-MET is a CuSn8 alloy whereas for BIV- MET®, CuPb10Sn10 is being used.CuPb10Sn10 is a higher lead content giving it a better advantage for higher rotational speeds. Also, the BIV-MET® sliding layer has lubrication pockets that are also suitable for oil lubrication and thus allowing this bushing material to run at much higher rotational speeds.
The disadvantage of BIV-MET® on the other hand is that once the bronze layer is worn off, the shaft will run against the steel backing of the bushing. Vice-versa, BRO-MET has a much longer working life provided that a bigger gap between shaft and bushing is acceptable for the application.
Most commonly BIV-MET® is used in track rollers, truck brakes and agriculture machinery.
